A man from Kisii county is living in agony and on the brink of giving up on life after a double tragedy.
Ronard Nyangoya Ndege could not hold back his tears as he painfully opened up about his great loss.
The 48-year-old father of five emotionally shared how he lost his lovely wife and daughter within a year.
How old were Nyangoya's wife, daughter when they died?
He said he lost his wife, Irene Kemuma, and his daughter, Sabina, on the same date—August 16.
“They both died on August 16, but my daughter died first at age 22, then my wife followed a year later at 38 years. Both tragedies caught me by surprise, leaving me asking myself whether there was a bad omen following my family. It is hard to believe, even now, whether it was just a coincidence or something beyond understanding,” he said.
The deaths left Nyangoya with four children who now look up to him for food, shelter, and clothing.
He has become their sole caregiver but struggles to make ends meet as he has no stable source of income.
When did Nyangoya's daughter die?
Nyangoya recalled how his daughter was the first to die under very strange circumstances that raised many questions.
“On the eve of my daughter’s death, we had travelled to Nyeri county to visit my mother. The kids wanted to see her, and I agreed. We arrived at her compound safely and had a good time. My daughter did not show any signs of tiredness or illness. She never complained of a headache or any discomfort.
The following day, early in the morning, my daughter was coming from the washroom when she suddenly collapsed. She did not trip, she was not hit by anyone or anything—she just collapsed and died on the spot. One of my children came to wake me up and alert me about the emergency. There was nothing we could do to resuscitate or save her. She was gone, just like that. That was on August 16, 2024,” Nyangoya narrated.
When did Nyangoya's wife die?
A year later, Nyangoya lost his wife, though her death was linked to a prolonged illness.
“For three days, Kemuma had complained of a severe headache that began days earlier. We took her to the clinic and the doctors ran a few tests. They said there was nothing alarming and gave her some painkillers. The pain went away for a few days but then returned.
I remember on that day she said she felt like someone had hit her behind the head. I found her lying on the floor. We rushed her to the hospital because she looked very unwell. She was crying and could not speak. Little did we know that would be our last conversation. At the hospital, she was put on oxygen, but she passed away while receiving treatment. That was on August 16, 2025,” he painfully recounted.
How many children does Nyangoya have?
Nyangoya is now stressed about how he will care for his four remaining children, the youngest being only one year and two months old.
He has one child in university and another in college, making it very difficult to pay their school fees.
He appeals to well-wishers to help him care for his young family as he continues to grieve his loss.
