The National Democratic Congress (NDC) recently witnessed a significant gathering in Dzodze, within the Ketu North Municipality, as part of a nationwide "Thank You Tour" led by its National Chairman, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia. Thousands of enthusiastic supporters converged at the Hand of God Church of All Nations to welcome Mr. Nketia and demonstrate their solidarity with the party.
The venue was filled to capacity, hosting a diverse assembly of traditional leaders, constituency and branch executives, dedicated party members, and other well-wishers, all eager to express their support for the Chairman’s visit and the party’s broader objectives.
Gratitude and Grassroots Support
Mr. Asiedu Nketia addressed the attendees, emphasizing that the primary purpose of the tour was to convey his sincere gratitude to the grassroots level of the party, particularly the branch executives. He acknowledged their tireless efforts and unwavering dedication, which he credited as being instrumental in the NDC’s successes.
"Elections are won at the branch level, and it is the dedication of our branch executives that keeps this party strong," he stated, highlighting the critical role these individuals play in maintaining the party’s strength and vitality.
Unity, Diligence, and Loyalty
The National Chairman urged party members to maintain unity, diligence, and loyalty, stressing the importance of these qualities for the party’s continued success. He also touched on the need for merit and commitment to guide future restructuring efforts within the party.
“When the time comes to renew our leadership structures, ensure that those who seek to undermine your good work are replaced with serious, dedicated people,” he advised, emphasizing the importance of selecting individuals who are genuinely committed to the party’s goals.
Pride in Political Identity
Mr. Asiedu Nketia encouraged members to take pride in their association with the NDC, highlighting the changing perceptions of the party. “Today, those who once ran away from the NDC are now looking for ways to get NDC membership cards. So, be proud that you are NDC,” he remarked, emphasizing the growing appeal and recognition of the party.
Collaboration for Development
He also appealed to supporters to continue working collaboratively with the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and Member of Parliament (MP) to effectively implement the government’s development agenda.
“Your MP has a bright future ahead. His performance in Parliament gives us confidence in his leadership, so continue to support him to excel,” he added, underscoring the importance of supporting elected officials in their roles.
Addressing Water Challenges
The Volta Regional Minister, Mr. James Gunu, addressed a long-standing issue in the Ketu North Constituency, assuring the chiefs and people that the persistent water challenges would soon be resolved. He announced that the Community Water and Sanitation Agency was working to extend the Adidome water system through Akatsi to Dzodze, Penyi, and other areas experiencing water shortages.
Commendation and Humility
Rev. Martin Amenaki, the MCE for Ketu North, lauded Mr. Asiedu Nketia for his humility and leadership, describing the nationwide "Thank You Tour" as "unprecedented in Ghana’s political history."
“It is rare for a National Chairman, after elections, to personally embark on such a comprehensive tour to thank the grassroots. This act of humility and accountability sets a new standard in political leadership,” he stated, acknowledging the unique nature of the Chairman’s initiative.
He affirmed Ketu North’s unwavering support for the NDC’s national development agenda and highlighted ongoing efforts to address unemployment through youth empowerment and entrepreneurship initiatives.
“We are implementing programmes to create sustainable jobs and improve livelihoods,” he said, adding that Ketu North had made significant contributions to national governance, with several of its sons and daughters now serving at regional and national levels.
Traditional Authority Support
Togbui Dzoku V, Paramount Chief and President of the Dzodze Traditional Council, expressed gratitude to the NDC leadership for acknowledging the people’s efforts and pledged the continued support of traditional authorities towards the development of Ketu North and the Volta Region as a whole.
