Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday welcomed the Supreme Court's verdict granting bail to former prime minister and PTI Patron-in-Chief Imran Khan in eight cases linked to the May 9 riots, terming the judgment a milestone for justice and a ray of hope.
The opposition party said the decision has not only exposed the 'fabricated narrative' but also stood as a clear proof of Khan's innocence.
The leaders reaffirmed their unwavering resolve to continue the just struggle for restoring true democracy, upholding constitutional supremacy and ensuring judicial independence in the country come what may.
Speaking at a press conference here at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House and flanked by party's senior leaders Latif Khosa and Aamir Dogar, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja said that the day marked a moment of relief and joy for the nation, as the courts had finally delivered justice after a prolonged wait.
He pointed out that only one case - the Al-Qadir Trust reference - remained pending, expressing confidence that it too would soon be decided in PTI's favour, paving the way for the 'nation's leader' to be freed from detention.
Highlighting the events of May 9, the PTI secretary general noted that ex-premier Khan was now under arrest in only one remaining case, reiterating the party's stance that the May 9 narrative was fabricated. He emphasized that the latest decision was purely legal in nature, serving as proof of Khan's innocence.
Reaffirming PTI's vision, Raja said: 'History has promised us that justice will prevail. We will establish true democracy in this country. The labourers of this nation will attain welfare, and the farmers will receive the rightful reward for their crops. Our journey, however, has not yet reached its destination.'
Commenting on the recent court verdict, he said it would be better if those sitting in the corridors of power understood its significance. 'Otherwise,' he warned, 'Allah's justice is silent but certain'.
Salman Akram Raja expressed confidence that party leaders Umar Ayub, Shibli Faraz, and Malik Ahmad Bhachar would soon return to the assemblies, affirming that the struggle of PTI colleagues would continue with full determination.
Recalling the negotiation process, the secretary general said PTI had clearly demanded a meeting with the party founder, but the authorities failed to arrange it. 'We want to talk only to those who hold the actual mandate and authority for negotiations,' he asserted.
Speaking on the occasion, Latif Khosa said that after a long time, the nation had felt a breath of fresh air as the judiciary upheld its independent stature. He reaffirmed that PTI's struggle for judicial independence would continue until justice was fully ensured.
Referring to the PTI founder's cases, Khosa noted that the matter had already lost its relevance when bail was granted to Senator Ejaz Chaudhry and Hafiz Farhat, which led the apex court to extend similar relief to the PTI founder.
The PTI leader highlighted that in the Zaman Park and Chakri incidents, only one individual had testified, while in five out of eight cases, PTI chief was not even named. He termed the arrest unlawful, reminding that the law clearly stated once bail was granted in one case, another of the same nature cannot be initiated.
Referring to the Al-Qadir Trust case, he said the funds were deposited in the SC's account and were originally meant for the Sindh government. However, he added Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif diverted these funds towards the Danish School project. 'It is now for the Sindh government and the federal government to resolve this matter between themselves,' he added.
On the occasion, Aamir Dogar expressed gratitude to the judges of the apex court for delivering a verdict based on justice and facts, describing today's verdict as the first drop of rain in the journey towards justice and democratic restoration. He said that despite false cases and fabricated narratives, the truth has ultimately come to light. Paying tribute to PTI workers, Dogar commended their unwavering commitment and resilience throughout the struggle.
