The inaugural Africa Finance Leaders Awards has recognized Dr. Ayo Adepoju, Executive Director and Group CFO of Ecobank Transnational, as one of the recipients.
The Awards, introduced during this year's Conference of African Chief Financial Officers held at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra from November 3rd to 4th, 2024.

Business Finance, Company Management, and the responsibilities of the Chief Financial Officer, among other topics.
Nevertheless, the critical moment for numerous attendees at this year's gathering was the launch of the Africa Finance Leaders Awards, which highlighted financial excellence by recognizing outstanding accomplishments and distinctions in the finance sector.

Dr. Ayo Adepoju received the Award for Excellence in Corporate Financial Performance & Growth in 2025. He was named Group CFO and later Group Executive Director in June 2025, overseeing a finance team of about 250 professionals operating in 35 countries. Under his direction, Ecobank has improved its financial stability through key deals, such as Eurobonds and sustainability-linked loans, greatly boosting its position in global capital markets.
His effective leadership has played a key role in promoting Ecobank's Growth, Transformation & Returns strategy, enhancing capital distribution, and spearheading company-wide transformation efforts, leading to better financial outcomes throughout Africa.
The guiding vision, profound understanding of the institution, and broad expertise of Dr. Adepoju have played a key role in maintaining Ecobank's advantage and development path.
Other recipients include: H.E. Naji Mohammed Issa, Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Hon. Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, Minister of Finance of the Republic of Ghana, Semiu Lamidi from FirstBank Ghana, Tsholofelo Molefe – Chief Finance Officer at South African telecommunications company MTN, and Ibukun Oyedeji for his key role in ensuring ongoing financial success for Access Bank in 2025.

The Deputy Chief of Staff at Ghana's presidency, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, spoke at the event and praised the recipients, stating that "they have shown good financial management," while emphasizing that it is not solely about profit but also about vision, honesty, and influence.
