The Interior Minister is expected to reveal significant changes to immigration rules, aiming to restrict asylum seekers to temporary residence within the nation.
Shabana Mahmood is set to present changes on Monday designed to reduce the UK's appeal to undocumented migrants and streamline their removal.
According to the proposed modifications, individuals who are given asylum might be deported if their country of origin is considered secure, and their status would be periodically assessed.
At present, individuals granted refugee status are eligible for this designation for a period of five years. Following this, they may apply for permanent residency and subsequently pursue a path toward citizenship.
A supporter of the Home Secretary stated: "Today, being a refugee means a lifetime of protection in Britain."
Mahmood will address this by making refugee status temporary and subject to periodic evaluation. As soon as your country of origin becomes safe for return, you will be required to leave.
Although this may appear to be a minor technical change, this new agreement represents the most important change in how refugees are handled since the Second World War.
Ms. Mahmood is contemplating implementing comparable strict policies as the center-left Danish government, driven by concerns that 'more extreme elements' might take control in the UK if she fails to address the escalating migration issue.
In a video shared on X on Friday, Ms. Mahmood referred to her proposals as "the most important changes to our asylum system in recent history" and highlighted the increasing number of asylum applications in Britain, while noting a decline in other parts of Europe.
She mentioned that the previous administration had had "years to address this issue" but had "squandered" time and resources on the £700 million Rwanda initiative.
However, under Labour, she stated, there had been 'unprecedented' levels of immigration enforcement operations and detentions, with nearly 50,000 individuals who had no legal right to remain in the UK being deported.

This is the largest figure recorded for any 12-month span since the start of records in 2001.
