Southwest Muslims Oppose Trump's Nigeria CPC Designation

The Muslim community in Southwest Nigeria (MUSWEN) has dismissed the recent action by U.S. President Donald Trump in designating Nigeria as a "Country of Particular Concern."
At a press conference in Osogbo before the group's 10th General Assembly, the President of MUSWEN, Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, stated that the designation was unjustified and did not reflect the true situation in Nigeria.
Oladejo stated that the 10th General Assembly is scheduled for Sunday, November 16, and will be organized by the Osun State Muslim Community.
He stated that there is no foundation for allegations of genocide targeting any religious group within the nation, emphasizing that instability impacts both Christians and Muslims.
He stated, "The timing and intensity of Trump's outburst warrant significant cause for worry, as his intentions seem not to be selfless, as he claims to the global community, but rather driven by hidden economic and political interests."
He stated, "There is no comparable instance of genocide targeting a specific religion in Nigeria. If there are any issues, both the main religious communities, Christianity and Islam, face similar hardships due to the devastating attacks by bandits and insurgents."
Oladejo stated that the communities most affected by the insurgency are predominantly Muslim, making followers of the Islamic faith major casualties.
He stated, "In truth, we can confidently assert that, given the majority of areas impacted by insurgency are predominantly inhabited by Muslims, followers of the Islamic faith are the primary victims of insurgency and banditry."
Speaking about relationships in the Southwest, he mentioned that families frequently include individuals who follow both faiths. He further stated that tensions in Benue and Plateau stem from ethnic and financial factors, rather than religious differences.
Oladejo warned Trump against portraying Nigeria's security issues as religious, stating, "don't present it by attributing a religious meaning to what is essentially an ethnic conflict, an occupational issue, or an economic competition."
He also mentioned that Nigeria is still held in high regard across the continent, stating, “In contrast to suggestions made in certain circles, which have been encouraged by Trump's classification, Nigeria is not a country in disrepute; it is a guiding presence in Africa, whether in the liberation of numerous African nations, the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa, and similar efforts.”
He stated that Nigeria is able to manage its internal security issues and dismissed what he called an effort by the U.S. to meddle based on incorrect assertions.
At the upcoming General Assembly, Oladejo mentioned that Governor Abdullahi Audu Sule from Nasarawa State will give a keynote speech on the specified theme,Can Nigeria's Economy Offer Any Prospects for the People?
Oladejo, who also holds the position of Deputy President-General (South) of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), mentioned that the event will involve a N2 billion fundraising initiative aimed at "economic empowerment; scholarships and bursaries; specialized training in Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Data Informatics, among other areas, to ensure our youth are employable."
He mentioned that MUSWEN intends to implement several training initiatives aimed at assisting young individuals and women, along with the development of a contemporary secretariat at Agodi GRA in Ibadan.
He mentioned that the organization plans to offer better medical facilities and diagnostic services in the six Southwest states.
